Spring Semester, nor this past winter break, has provided me with much time to update my website. However, after over 3 months of rather constant work, much has transpired! Firstly, having the honor and pleasure of meeting Steve Reich and performing in one of his pieces was truly magical. December and January concerts with Ms. Yael Handelman (including a performance at First Night 2008 in Boston) were pleasant and well-received. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my 4 December performance, but the following week I attended an Opera Workshop in Syracuse where I learned some valuable information, and met some wonderful people including Ms. Lauren Flanigan (soprano), Jie Wang (composer), William Stewart (librettist), Deborah Henson-Conant, Anthony Davis, and Libby Larsen, to name a few. After the convention, I completed a large portfolio for the Music-In-Education Fellowship I received last semester. The portfolio examined New England Conservatory's Solfege for Singers class taught by Professor Larry Scripp. In January, I completed the Bill of Rights setting. The piece is officially entitled: Dona Nobis Veritatem ~ a setting of American text. Along with the Bill, it also includes the Preamble, and the first one and a half paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence. The instrumentation is Viola, Soprano, and Piano, and it will receive its premiere very soon! - Monday, 3 March, 2008, at 8PM in St. Botolph Hall, just around the corner from Jordan Hall. Ms. Ashleigh Gordon will play viola, Ms. Ceceilia Allwein will be the soprano, and I will accompany them both.
As always, I am very proud of my piano students, Devika, Ali-Jon, Zoe, Aliza, and Jodi, and I have some new additions - Andrew, Shumita, and Shomik! At the end of this semester, there will be a recital including performances by my students! Look for details soon! Lastly, this summer I plan on attending the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice (SICPP), where my Etude #2: 4-voice Fugue will hopefully be performed. I will also in August attend the Apple Hill Summer Festival for Chamber Music, where I will hopefully perform Fauré's Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor as well as a hidden jewel, Kuhlau's Piano Quartet Op. 32 in C minor!
